5 Ideas for Back to School Hairstyles

Nothing puts a damper on the end of the summer like the knowledge that you will be returning to hours in the classroom.5 Ideas for Back to School Hairstyles, Scizzors, Shrewsbury, MA However, there is something you can do to help make the transition easier: a new hairstyle. If you’re looking for a way to start off the school year the right way, try any of these easy five ideas for back to school hairstyles.

Back to School Hairstyles: Loose Curls

These soft curls are cute and casual. They’re also a little bit more subtle than regular ringlet curls. If you have straight hair, loose curls can be created quickly and easily with a curling iron and dry hair. If you have naturally wavy hair, you can allow your hair air dry the night before and then use the curling iron in a few places to give it some extra life. Be sure to only curl the last few inches your hair and keep the hair on the top of your head smooth. If you’re in for a long day, add a light layer of hairspray to keep the curls in place.

Back to School Hairstyles: Buns

From the ballet bun to the messy bun, this hairstyle creates a chic look that will never go out of style. The different types available offer you a chance to get creative. They add a touch of glamour to any style and they also show off your face, especially those amazing cheekbones. Begin your bun with a high ponytail and keep in mind that it will determine how high the bun is placed on your head. When you’re done, secure the bun in place with bobby pins and hairspray.

Back to School Hairstyles: Bangs

Both side swept bangs and bangs that are straight across the forehead are popular right now. Bangs are a nice way to frame your face and bring attention to your beautiful smile. If you are looking for a way to emphasize your new bangs, a simple ponytail is sure to do the trick. Bangs are also an easy way to change up your appearance without resorting to a drastic cut or new hair color.

Back to School Hairstyles: A Half-Up

Only pulling back half of your hair is a great way to keep your hair out of your face and will still allow you to show it off. For best results, blow-dry your hair with a diffuser for some extra volume. Depending on how sleek or casual you want to look, use a comb or your fingers to sweep back the top half of your hair and insert bobby pins to keep your hair in place. If you have extra time, feel free to add some loose curls to give it a bit more flair.

Back to School Hairstyles: Fishtail Braid or Waterfall Braid

Fishtail braids and waterfall braids are popular right now and are a bit more exciting than the classic braid. They look great on every face shape. You don’t have to stress over getting these braids to look perfect, either. A more tousled edge can give this braid a fun, carefree look.

With any of these back to school hairstyles, you will return to school looking and feeling like a whole new you, ready to take on anything that comes your way. Although it’s still difficult to say goodbye to summer freedom, at the very least, you can look forward to showing off some great new hairstyles when you return to school.

5 Step Waterfall Braid Tutorial

When it comes to eye-catching trends for long hair, the waterfall braid is one of the styles at the top of our list.Waterfall braid tutorial, Scizzors, Shrewsbury, Massachusetts However, it may also appear to be one of the more complicated hairstyles. Luckily, looks can be deceiving. A waterfall braid is actually easy to achieve, especially if you already know how to French braid. There is really only one key difference between the French braid and the waterfall braid.

With this waterfall braid tutorial, a few elastics, and several bobby bins, you can master this new style with just five easy steps.

Waterfall braid tutorial: Step 1

Start a waterfall braid by gathering about an inch or two of hair at the top of the right side of the head. Divide this part of your hair into three equal amounts.

Waterfall braid tutorial: Step 2

At this point, you will begin French braiding by crossing over the left piece of hair with the middle one and then the right piece over the left. Don’t forget to add more hair to the overlapping sections as you go.

Continue braiding normally until you are ready to begin the waterfall effect create by pieces of hair hanging down from the braid. Typically, an ideal spot to begin this effect is after about three inches of braiding. At this point, simply drop the hair that crosses over the top section. Pick up a new piece of hair near the section you just dropped and add it to the braid.

Waterfall braid tutorial: Step 3

Continue this process of dropping every section of the hair that crosses over the top and picking up new strands of hair to braid in its place. Once the braid is complete, tie it with an elastic band so that it doesn’t fall apart. Clear elastics are recommended because they will make the braid look neater.

Waterfall braid tutorial: Step 4

Now just repeat steps one, two, and three again on the left side to get that same effect on the other side. (Or you can skip this step to achieve the trendy, one-braid waterfall.)

Waterfall braid tutorial: Step 5

Once you have two braids, connect them together at the crown of your head by pinning one braid under the other. Keep the braids in place with more bobby-pins. Now you’re ready to show off your hair to all of your friends.

Waterfall braids are a fun new spin to the classic braid look and it’s a relief to know that they are not as complicated as they look. Now that you have these five steps, you may begin creating your own waterfall braid.

5 Hairstyles for the Beach

While a trip to beach is one of the best parts of a great summer day, it is not always a part of a great hair day. Scizzors, Shrewsbury, MAThe wind, sand, salt water, and humidity can really do a number on hair. Thankfully, there are hairstyles for the beach can counter these elements, while still allowing you to look cute and stylish. Here is a list of five of our favorite hairstyles for the beach that will make sure that your beachy hair looks great all day long.

  1. The ponytail is one of the most classic hairstyles for the beach. Sure it’s simple, but sometimes that works best, particularly if you have long, straight hair and bangs. If you want to get more creative with a ponytail, feel free. Why not sweep it to the side or try adding some curls?
  2. If you want something a little more sophisticated than a ponytail, there is always the option of putting your hair into a bun. A bun is one of the more ideal hairstyles for the beach if it’s going to be windy. A bun will keep your hair out of your face and can also help keep your hair from getting too wet. If you plan on going into the water a lot, you might want to make sure to secure the bun in place with bobby pins. A messy bun is a great way to look casual but keep your hair under control.
  3. It is impossible to discuss hairstyles for the beach without mentioning braids. You really can’t  go wrong with a braid, and there are many different varieties to suit every mood and style. If you’re in a hurry or don’t have any bobby pins, a classic braid works great. If you have a little extra time (or have a lot of layers in your hair that cause it not to be conducive to a regular braid), you can try French braids, fishtail braids, or waterfall braids.
  4.  Are you contemplating hairstyles for the beach and can’t decide between braids and a bun? You don’t have to choose.  You can try a braid and bun combination. This look is achieved with three or four pieces of braided hair being swept up into a bun. It’s a unique style and shows off your adventurous side.
  5. Another option is going wavy. If you have naturally wavy hair, this might be one of your best options for hairstyles for the beach. The humidity is going to bring out those waves anyway, so don’t fight them if you don’t have to. A few tips for creating and keeping waves under control: Before you head out for the day, wash your hair. While your hair is still wet, scrunch it and add some styling gel and let it air dry completely on its own. In order to avoid frizzing, avoid touching your hair until it has dried.

If you still can’t seem to get your hair under control, a hair wrap or bandanna is another great option for taming your hair at the beach (and is a great way to protect colored hair from harmful UV rays).
