How to Curl Your Hair with a Flat Iron

Getting ready for a fun Friday night and not quite sure what to do with your hair?

How to Curl Your Hair With a Flat IronLearning how to curl your hair with a flat iron is a quick way to achieve sexy, natural-looking curls that will turn heads. Sometimes using a curling iron can cause the curls to appear too tight and fake. Knowing how to curl your hair with a flat iron will help you get the curls you desire.

The stick-straight hair trend faded away with the 2000s, and now everyone is craving voluminous waves. Fortunately, you don’t need to get rid of your old flat iron, since a full-bodied look can easily be achieved when you curl your hair with a flat iron.

In order to curl your hair with a flat iron, the first thing that you will need to do is make sure that you have the right type of flat iron. It should be about one inch wide in order to achieve nice, even curls. The flat iron used for curling should also be slightly rounded, and the outside should have the ability to get pretty hot and not be protected by a thick plastic.

Divide your hair into two sections on either side of your head. If you have thick hair, it is a good idea to also separate the underneath layers from your top layers by pinning it back. Most people prefer to start doing their curls beginning from the back of their head moving forward, and from the bottom layers up.

Once your flat iron has heated to no higher than 420 degrees Fahrenheit (any hotter and you risk burning your hair!), you can finally begin curling your hair. Separate a once-inch section and clamp the iron onto the hair, about three quarters up from the bottom. Once you’ve clamped the hair, turn the flat iron over and wrap the hair around once so that the excess piece of hair is pointing down. Then, simply pull the flat iron down the length of your hair slowly, as if you were straightening it. Once you release the flat iron, you should have a nice, bouncy curl. You may need to twist the piece of hair with your finger so that it settles in the correct shape.

Comb through the curls with your fingers until they are positioned to your liking. If the curls are too tight, comb through with a wide toothed comb to make them appear more natural. Spritz a little bit of hairspray so that the curls will hold.

If you don’t get your curls looking quite the way you want the first time, just keep practicing! If only a portion of the piece of hair curls, then go over that piece again with the flat iron, moving more slowly over the less curly part. The slower that you move the flat iron on the hair, the tighter the curl will be. If there are ugly flat iron kinks in your hair, loosen your grip on the iron.

Wedding Hair Tips

While there may be many guides offering information on the biggest and best trends in bridal hair, one topic that often gets overlooked it how to go about the process–from choosing the style to keeping it looking great throughout the entire reception. Wedding Hair Tips, Scizzors, Shrewsbury, MAFor that reason, we provide some of our favorite wedding hair tips below to ensure that you will look fabulous on your big day.

Stay True

While your wedding day may seem like the perfect one to make a splash, too many people look back on their photos and regret their wedding hair choice many years later. If you don’t tend to wear flashy hairstyles in your everyday life, then perhaps your wedding isn’t the place to start. Other good wedding hair tips include selecting a less trendy and more traditional hairstyle. You don’t want to become like the rest of the couples who married in the 80s, and regret rocking mile-high hair in nuptial photos. Better to tone it down and allow your beautiful face to garner the attention.

On the other hand, there’s nothing wrong with going a little bigger than you may have originally envisioned. Curls will relax through the night, and updos may wilt, so avoid being too conservative. The best compromise between being too relaxed and too glamorous is to follow your usual style, then allow your stylist room to enhance it a bit.

Try Extensions

Don’t shy away from extensions because it’s not your real hair. Many brides opt for extensions to add fullness to their ‘do, and no one ever seems to know! Your stylist will be able to help you determine the best way to achieve the look you want, whether it means adding some extra strands or not.

People that spend time on stage always have dress rehearsals before the audience gets to see them, and a wedding should be no exception. While you don’t have to go through all the motions exactly (it might take away from the real thing, having the fiance see you in full wedding attire!), but at least put all of the pieces of your look together before the day of the wedding. Hairstylists and makeup artists are used to trial runs, and it’s better to work with them to get your hair perfect before the big day than stress about it when you have plenty of other things to worry about.

Be Prepared

Not everything goes as planned on your wedding day. Perhaps the most important of these wedding hair tips is to be flexible. Should it begin to rain or the humidity levels be higher than expected, don’t panic. Be open to new ideas that your hair stylist may have to keep your hair looking great no matter what, even if it means trying a completely different hairstyle. Ask your stylist if you can plan back-up styles together in case something goes awry. Also, charge your maid of honor with packing an emergency kit that includes bobby pins and a travel size bottle of hairspray, should any last-minute fixes be required.

These wedding hair tips should not only ease the stress of your special day, but help you make style choices that you won’t regret in the future. Here at Scizzors, we know how important your hair is to the success of your wedding day. We would be happy to book an appointment with you so that we can get your bridal hair planned out with plenty of time in advance. Contact us today!
